Premier Lesson 5: Roadmap to Freedom

Comments Off

Dear Valued Leaders,

There are just under six weeks between now and Freedom University in Irvine, CA, and we’re almost to the finish line of the race to the first BIG event of the year. Whether you’re leading the pack or not quite where you anticipated you’d be by now, it’s still everyone’s game!

Oftentimes we set clear goals and devise realistic plans, yet the path from point A to point B still remains a little fuzzy. That’s why you have to create roadmaps for yourself and help your teams create their own roadmaps too.

Your Roadmap

Your roadmap is a step-by-step plan of activity that you cater to your life in order to reach your goals. We’ve talked about creating a plan and we’ve talked about embracing your plan with urgency.

Now let’s talk about implementation.

Your map will be much clearer to you as soon as you put it on paper. Physically write down and carve out time for each activity. That includes, prospecting, follow-up, three-way calls, training calls and events. Here is an example of what I mean.

Tuesday, February 1
6pm – 7pm, do follow up (or three-way) calls

Thursday, February 3
7pm – 8pm, attend Chamber of Commerce function, share at least ten squares, get numbers

Friday, February 4
2pm – 3pm, call to follow up with Chamber of Commerce leads using the new evaluation pack!

Monday, February 7
8pm – 9pm, put plan in place for February Chava Tasting (location, guest list, speakers, etc.)

Tuesday, February 8
2pm – 3pm, call contacts to inform them of the upcoming event (say February 26), not an invitation as much as a save the date (the invite will be a little later)

And so on.

If you literally “map” out your plan at least one month at a time, you will be ten times more productive than if you try to do your business activities on the fly. Remember, it is also a numbers game. If you physically do the activity, your results will reflect your efforts.

Tips to Stay on Track

There are lots of little things you can do to help you stay on track. For instance, Korey Johnson keeps two boxes of Chava on AutoShip at all times, that way he is committing to enjoying and sharing at least three pieces a day – no matter what. If you’re spending money on product, and committing to it, there’s a more powerful sense of urgency to get out there and share it.

Another tip is group accountability, for instance, several folks in Renee Chittick’s group commit to at least one Chava Tasting per month. They help each other, they talk about it and they learn from each event. If your team is depending on your contribution, you are more likely to see it through. No one wants to be the guy who lets down the team.

A Key Ingredient

Sometimes, when you aren’t seeing constant results it can be discouraging to keep going. This is very dangerous territory. People quit because they don’t know how to be productive, and they lose hope because they don’t know how to affect the outcome. Your roadmap will keep you productive, but at the same time I believe one of the necessary ingredients for each of us to do anything is motivation.

Staying Motivated

There is no simple answer to motivation. It’s self-directed; stemming from deep within you.

Making the conscious decision to implement, to follow through and to work to change the way that you do things requires commitment. Otherwise there is no reason to expect a different outcome.

Motivation and commitment can be developed more easily when you believe that what you are doing will actually be effective. This is where your roadmap comes in. Making a habit of your roadmap will keep you productive, which will in turn result in effective activity, and effective activity is the excitement and inspiration that keeps you motivated.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes regarding motivation.

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going. People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”
-Zig Ziglar

To your continued success,

Eddie Stone

P.S. Stay tuned for next week’s lesson on perspective as part of our Six Keys Premier Training series from now through Freedom U.
